I don't think you have to complete the ex dungeon. You can game the EX dungeon by exitting and reentering until you get a katz room (400 spirits per) to get about 1000/5 minutes. Or, Teleport in the EX Dungeon to the First Chamber, go through and fight the first boss again, and repeat.
